Privacy Policy
We take student privacy seriously. This policy explains what data Vertexly collects, why we use it, how we protect it, and the rights you have.
1. Who We Are
Vertexly is the Data Controller responsible for your personal data under applicable data protection law.
Vertexly (“we”, “our”, “us”) provides an educational maths learning application. If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this policy or your data, you can contact us at: [email protected]
2. Age Restrictions & Children’s Privacy
Vertexly is designed for students aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal data from anyone under the age of 13.
If we discover that a user under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete their account and associated data.
We aim to comply with the UK Age Appropriate Design Code. We collect only the minimum data needed to deliver the educational service. We do not use student data for targeted advertising, harmful profiling, or selling to data brokers.
3. Information We Collect
We collect the minimum amount of data required to provide a personalised, gamified learning experience.
Information you provide directly may include your name, email address, display name, year group, exam board, tier, target grade, answers to maths questions, and optional uploaded images of handwritten workings.
Information collected automatically may include learning progress, XP, levels, mastery progress, streaks, unlocked avatars, question history, device type, operating system version, and crash or diagnostic logs.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to create and manage your account, deliver appropriate maths content, track learning progress, provide feedback, maintain gamification features, improve app stability, and keep the service secure.
We process personal data under the following lawful bases:
- Contractual necessity — to provide the app and its core learning features.
- Legitimate interests — to improve, secure, and maintain the service.
- Legal obligation — where required by law.
- Consent — for optional features such as camera or photo library access.
5. Artificial Intelligence & Image Processing
Vertexly may use AI to provide marking, feedback, explanations, or learning support.
When you submit an answer or upload an image of your mathematical workings, that information may be securely processed by third-party AI providers solely to generate feedback or support the educational experience.
You must only upload images of mathematical workings. You must not upload images containing faces, names, addresses, school IDs, or other personally identifiable information.
6. Vertexly Pro & Payments
Vertexly Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play (processed via RevenueCat). We do not store your full payment card details — billing is handled by Apple or Google.
We receive subscription status (e.g. active/cancelled), product identifier, and purchase timestamps to unlock Pro features in the app.
Current UK pricing (may vary by store region and taxes):
- Vertexly Pro Monthly — £4.99 per month
- Vertexly Pro Yearly — £49.99 per year
Prices shown in the app at purchase time are the prices that apply to you.
7. How We Store and Share Data
Your data is securely hosted using trusted infrastructure providers such as Google Cloud Platform and Firebase.
We only share data with service providers required to run the app, such as authentication providers, cloud hosting, database infrastructure, analytics, crash reporting, subscription billing (RevenueCat), and secure AI processing providers.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share student data with advertising networks.
8. International Transfers
Some of our service providers may process data outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area.
Where this happens, we aim to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, UK-approved transfer mechanisms, or equivalent protections required by applicable data protection law.
9. Data Retention
We keep personal data only for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain your account, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and improve app reliability.
If you delete your account or request deletion, we aim to remove your personal data, learning progress, and uploaded images from active systems within 30 days, unless we are legally required to retain certain information for longer.
Residual copies may remain in encrypted backups for a limited period before routine deletion.
10. Your Rights
Under UK data protection law, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Request deletion of your data.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Withdraw consent for optional features such as camera access.
- Request information about how your data is used.
To exercise your rights, contact us at [email protected]. We aim to respond within 30 days.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including secure cloud infrastructure and encryption where appropriate.
However, no internet-based service can be guaranteed to be completely secure. We work to protect your data and respond appropriately to security risks.
12. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handle your personal data, please contact us first at [email protected] so we can try to resolve the issue.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you believe your data has been handled improperly.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in law, app features, or our data practices.
If we make significant changes, we will notify users through the app or by email where appropriate.
